Letting Passions Shine

As a journalism student who is obsessed with media, entertainment is basically my life.

Those who know me best, know that I absorb myself in all forms of entertainment whenever I have the chance, and try to act in the role of a guide to those looking for my thoughts and opinions on the latest movies, tv shows and video games releasing. The main reason why I so actively try to take on this role, especially in my various friend circles is that I someday wish to become an entertainment journalist. I would love to professionally report on the biggest news in the world of entertainment as it drops and provide large audiences with reviews on whatever they may be interested in.

One of my goals as a journalist is to form an audience and be trusted by that audience. I want to be the go-to source for almost anything that people would be interested in knowing about within the entertainment industry. Through my work, I want to create a safe space where people can feel free to engage with me and discuss what they are passionate about.

One of my heroes, who I feel was able to accomplish this in their own career, is Roger Ebert. In my mind, it goes without saying that Ebert changed the game in terms of film criticism and how film critics can connect with the people who read/view their content. Whether it was through his writing in the Chicago Sun-Times or the show that he hosted alongside Gene Siskel and Richard Roeper, Ebert drew an audience through his masterful film criticism and engaged with that audience on an intellectual level. Ebert inspired those who engaged with his content. He changed the way some people think about the world of film.

It is my hope that I will be able to accomplish some of the incredible things Ebert was able to accomplish in my own career. I hope to be as involved as I could possibly be in various forms of journalism, whether it be written, broadcast or podcast.

The entertainment industry is such a broad and diverse field. While it is hard for me to choose what interests me within it the most, I know that I will happily spend my career exploring it with an audience who is just as eager to express their passions as I am.

What are some of the things that you are most passionate about in life?
